Snoop Dogg Pull Death Row's Catalogs off of Streaming Platforms

Snoop Dogg was signed to Death Rows Label back in 1992 and departed in 1998. After the Superbowl Halftime Show aired in February, Snoop made a shocking announcement he later acquired the label’s brand from MNRK Music Group, which is controlled by private equity funds managed by the investment firm Blackstone and relaunched it as an NFT label.

He made the news regarding the relaunch in a fan's Clubhouse room appearance, “Death Row will be an NFT label. We will be putting out artists through the metaverse. Just like we broke the industry when we were the first independent label to be major, I want to be the first major [label] in the metaverse”. according to Complete Music Update published by Andy Malt.

Recently, he did an interview with REVOLT’s Drink Champs last Friday and said, he will remove all Death Row's catalogs from streaming services, including his 1993 debut Doggystyle and Dr. Dre’s seminal The Chronic. Snoop plans to launch a standalone “Death Row app” that will host the label’s music, “because those platforms don’t pay.” “Those platforms get millions and millions and millions of streams and nobody gets paid other than the record labels,” said Snoop. “So what I wanted to do is snatch my music off, create a platform, which is something sort of similar to Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, there’ll be a Death Row app.” according to a Billboard article published by Chris Eggertsen.

What are your thoughts on Snoop Dogg's own streaming platform?
