Bobby Shmurda Denied Parole; Serving Full Prison Sentence

The star behind this familiar Vine tune has attempted to appeal to the parole board regarding his prison sentence.

Shmurda has been behind bars since September 2016, serving a 7-year prison sentence (with a two-year credit given to him for pleading guilty, therefore serving only 5 years) for charges relating gang activity: guns and other weapons, assault, and drugs.

In August 2020, Shmurda was given a conditional release date of August 4th, 2020 provided he could successfully appeal to the parole board at Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York. He told the board that he was a changed man; that he intends on obtaining his GED, beginning philanthropic work for troubled youth and getting back into music. Additionally, he's describing himself as a leader, saying he no longer gets into fights, is “no longer impulsive” and now “takes the time to think of others.”

Unfortunately, it turns out that the rapper actually has had over 10 violations since he's been in prison, including those for fighting, weapon possession, and drugs. In 2017, he was even given an additional 4-year sentence for sneaking prison shiv into his cell (this is running concurrently to his other prison sentence, so no extra jail time). So his appeal has been denied.
